Beyond What We Can See: Sam Ritchie on Energy, Intuition and Human Potential
What if becoming more fully human means paying attention to more than what we can see, measure and logically explain?
As part of my conversations exploring human potential, I spoke with Sam Ritchie, better known as Sam Angel Guide, whose work takes us firmly into that territory.
Sam is an international space-clearing specialist, medium, spiritual circle facilitator, Angel Guide and author. She has been working with energy and space clearing for around 25 years and has developed a particularly unusual speciality: remotely clearing the energy of properties using only a floor plan and address. Her work has now taken her into homes and businesses across eight countries.
Our conversation explores something I find increasingly fascinating: how much of our human potential remains untapped simply because we have learned to disregard anything that cannot be explained by the rational mind?
Meet Sam Ritchie
Sam describes herself as having been able to see and communicate with the spirit world since childhood.
Rather than following one narrow spiritual path, her work has developed to include space clearing, mediumship, Oracle Card readings, past-life regression and spiritual development circles.
At the heart of all of it is something surprisingly grounded. Sam says her aim is to help people feel safe enough to let go of what is holding them back, clear enough to recognise their next step and confident enough to take it.
And that is where her work and my fascination with human potential begin to overlap. Because whether we describe something as intuition, energy, instinct, inner knowing or spiritual guidance, there is a bigger question underneath it:
Have we become so dependent on thinking that we have forgotten some of the other ways human beings know?
The Energy of the Spaces Around Us
One of the most intriguing aspects of Sam's work is her relationship with physical spaces. We tend to think of a building as bricks, walls, furniture and possessions. Sam's experience suggests there can be another layer. Through her space-clearing work, she considers the energetic history of homes and businesses and how the events, emotions and people connected with a place may continue to influence how that space feels.
She now works remotely as well as in person, using a property's floor plan and address. Sam says clients have reported changes ranging from a greater sense of calm and wellbeing to movement within businesses and properties that had struggled to sell. You do not necessarily have to share Sam's interpretation of why these changes happen for the idea itself to be interesting.
Most of us have walked into somewhere and immediately felt comfortable. And most of us have probably experienced the opposite. A room can feel welcoming, oppressive, peaceful or chaotic before anybody has said a word.
Perhaps our relationship with place is more important than modern life allows us to acknowledge.
Intuition Is Part of Being Human
This is also where Sam's work becomes particularly relevant to a conversation about human potential. We live in a culture that has become extraordinarily good at information. We can search almost anything. Analyse enormous quantities of data. Ask machines to process problems in seconds. But information isn't the same thing as knowing yourself.
Sam's Oracle readings, mediumship work and spiritual circles all encourage people to explore their own intuition and connection rather than simply looking outside themselves for answers.
That feels increasingly significant.
As machines become better at thinking, perhaps part of our own evolution involves remembering the human capacities we have neglected.
Intuition.
Sensitivity.
Connection.
Curiosity.
Our relationship with the unseen as well as the visible.
Echoes Within Walls
Sam has also brought many of her experiences together in her book Echoes Within Walls.
The book draws on her years of property and spiritual space-clearing work and explores the idea that buildings can retain echoes of the lives, emotions and events that have taken place within them.
It includes accounts from Sam's own work alongside her thoughts on energy and the human mind.
It is an intriguing meeting point between story, place, human experience and the things we still don't completely understand.
Perhaps Human Potential Is Bigger Than We Think
One of the reasons I wanted to have these conversations is that I don't believe human potential is simply about becoming more productive, successful or efficient. Quite the opposite. We have spent decades optimising the thinking, achieving, doing parts of being human. There are other parts of us too. Sam's work invites us to remain curious about them.
You may interpret her experiences spiritually. You may understand them through energy, psychology, intuition or something else entirely. But perhaps the important thing is not rushing to close the question.
What might we discover about ourselves if we became curious about the things we sense before we can explain them?
That seems a very human place to start.
